2016 The 2nd International Water Safety Symposium

In June 2016, the second International Water Safety Symposium (IWSS) was hosted by Lifesaving Society Korea (LSK) with the endeavor to promote drowning prevention and water safety.

The 2nd IWSS was co-organized by Sungkyunkwan University and Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) and attended international partners, Foundation for Environment Education (FEE) and International Federation of Swimming Teachers’ Association (IFSTA).

Keynote speakers Dr. Tom Griffiths from Aquatic Safety Research Group, Dr. Amit Lotan from Nidaria Technology Company, Mr. Daniel Schaffer from Foundation for Environmental Education, and Dr. Jung Lyul Lee from Sungkyunkwan University shared their studies and findings about the water safety and drowning prevention.

As achievement, 75 full papers among 151 full papers were published as special issue of JCR (Journal of Coastal Research) which is one of prestigious journals about coastal.

The second symposium was a stepping stone to draw the attention from researchers, experts and stakeholders in water safety to solve the global issue of preventative accidents around the aquatic environment.

The IWSS will continue the effort to bring all people together to create safer environment to save lives.
